Riveted Cherry + Steel Shelf

Inspired by historic integrations of metal and wood in industrial settings, this steel and cherry shelving system crafted by EngineHouse is an exploration of modern manufacturing processes and the potential for merging traditional joinery techniques with a rapidly scalable technology.

By laminating cherry between two thin steel uprights with solid brass rivets, three unstable components provide a lightweight, exceptionally strong foundation for this shelving. The shelf boards are made of solid cherry and are entirely adjustable, aside from the top, bottom and middle shelves.

This shelving is made from laser-cut steel, cherry, and brass rivets. Price is available upon request. Standard dimensions: 16”Dx36”Wx96”H or 16”Dx48”W x120”H; available in custom sizes.

About this Maker

EngineHouse

Founded in the engine room of a decommissioned Wilkinsburg fire station, EngineHouse began in 2011 as the creative ambition of colleagues Adam Lackett and Kellen Fenaughty. The partners moved to Pittsburgh in 2003 to attend Carnegie Mellon’s School of Architecture and quickly fell in love with the city’s gritty character and architectural potential. After forays in the fields of architecture, construction, landscape design, and furniture making, they formed EngineHouse as a design-build practice with a holistic approach to the construction process. The group, now bolstered by Pittsburgh native and partner, Ian English, shares a passion for hard work, a love for honest materials, and a commitment to durable, long-lasting investments in local infrastructure.
