El Rocker De Las llantas Muertas (Tire Rocker)

The T.O.M.T.™ Tire Rocker was meticulously handcrafted from timeworn tires and remade into this artful and comfortable chair. Prepared over weeks, the tires were cleaned and conditioned until the rubber surface mimicked the feel and integrity of leather. Once balanced to take the form of a chair, the tires were cut and carefully fit onto a handcrafted steel-frame, ensuring the final rocker not only looked good but also functioned well.

Each piece of T.O.M.T.™ furniture is one-of-a-kind because it is handcrafted from found objects. Rodney Allen Trice works on commission to create furniture similar to the rocking chair design shown here. He is constantly collecting old objects to imagine new meaning and purpose. He also works with customers’ personal objects that are ready for new life.

About this Maker

T.O.M.T.™ offers imaginative home furnishings and lighting made from found materials. Refitting otherwise discarded objects, founder and artist Rodney Allen Trice gives ordinary items a new lease on life. Rodney began designing and making upcycled furniture in 1988 out of a need to furnish his first apartment in New York City on a budget. His creative interpretation of found objects then planted the seeds of what is now a celebrated collection of distinctive, functional designs.
