“Give a little piece of yourself to a special person, for a special occasion, with a special card.”
Edie Smith has always been a believer in the power of positivity and encouragement. Naturally, her friends and family seek her out for regular support. After retiring in 2013, Edie, a self-taught artist, yearned for a way to inspire and encourage others within her community, and so she founded Espirations Greeting Cards in 2017. With a toolkit of crafting skills, and a way with words, Edie began creating lively, handmade note and greeting cards from various specialty papers and materials in her home studio. Throughout she has been animated by the words of gospel singer Yolanda Adams: “The things we do; the things we say. These are the greatest gifts we’ll ever give away.”
Espiriations has grown into a rotating series of themed collections with Edie’s playful, art-focussed card designs that focus on family, friends, faith, and strong women. Bejeweled “Queens” with elaborate head wraps, colorful flowers and butterflies are common elements on cards featuring bold colors and characters with aspirational and spiritual messages written by Edie inside. Special cards for birthdays, graduations, sibling-love, sympathy and more are thoughtfully crafted by hand. Each card is a keepsake meant to be cherished and maybe even hung as an art piece. Edie hopes deeply for Espirations cards to be a platform to communicate thoughts and expressions between loved ones, especially for those who struggle with finding the right words.
